Spring Art Classes and Workshops
The Arts Guild of Rahway is dedicated to the promotion of education in and of the arts, and the value that the study of art can have in our lives. The classes listed below are appropriate for adults and children with all levels of experience- - beginner, intermediate and advanced students can benefit from the high level of instruction available.

Adult Classes

MONDAY
Drawing: Learn to draw using graphite, charcoal, conte crayon and ink in a series of exercises used to create original artworks. Focus will be on use of perspective, composition, proportion, positive/negative space, texture and other techniques designed to provide a repertoire of methods to make your own landscape, still life and free-style drawings. Materials list.

TUESDAY
Life Drawing: OPEN STUDIO. Live models pose each week for artists to draw. Long and short poses during each session. Artists responsible for their own tools and materials. $60 in advance for all 8 weeks or $10 per session (payable at class).

WEDNESDAY
Watercolor: Learn to use the medium of watercolor to create vivid, colorful original works of art. This class will take you through the many ways to create your own art with watercolor paints. Emphasis will be on color, blending, composition, precision, form, light and shade, use of brushes. All levels. Materials list.

April 2-May 21

Painting with Oils: Working from still life displays, landscape and other inspirational sources explore the technical, formal and creative aspects of painting original artworks with oils. Lessons will focus on a variety of methods used to produce successful oil paintings including color mixing & color theory, transparent glazes, design and under-painting. All levels. Materials list available at registration.

Acrylic Painting: An excellent class to learn some of the many ways traditionally used in acrylic painting, from washes to glazing with acrylic medium, use of gels and additives for texture. All levels. Materials list available at registration.

THURSDAY
Beginning Stained Glass: Create a Tiffany style (copper foil) technique stained glass lampshade. Glass cutting, foil wrapping, soldering and finishing covered. Students responsible for tools and materials. List available at first class. Maximum class size: 9 students.

Intermediate Stained Glass: Advanced techniques/projects in stained glass. Must have some experience cutting glass, soldering and working from patterns. Project options depend on proficiency with glass including more complicated lampshades, stained glass window panels or even stained glass sculptural pieces and holiday ornaments.

Children's Art Classes
The following classes are geared for children between 7 and 14 years old. Many of the above listed adult classes are also suitable for children 12 years and older.
TUESDAY
Drawing: Build your child’s skill in drawing realistic or imaginary objects, people and landscapes. Working with pencil, charcoal & ink, each child will find fun and simple ways to draw exciting and creative pictures each week. Students will be responsible for their own drawing materials. List available.

Art With The Masters: An exciting class that introduces young artists to examples from the history of great art from around the world and how to use the styles and techniques of the great artists and cultural styles to create their own art.

TUESDAY
In The Mix: MIXED MEDIA FOR TEENS: By using various art tools (acrylic and watercolor paints, pastels, pen & ink, charcoal) these classes will explore different media and materials. Students will produce a minimum of four projects incorporating photomontage, two and 3 dimensional art forms, found object sculpture and textile collage. An exciting class to try many different ways of making original artworks.

Teen Drawing/ Beginner to Advanced: With weekly demonstrations students will follow a course of exercises and projects designed to build skills for drawing from objects in life from still-life to landscape and an intro to figure drawing. Most materials included

SATURDAY
Japanese Anime/Manga Style Cartooning: Anime is THE cartooning style that children today love to watch. In this course, kids will make their own comic art using the styles and techniques used in popular Japanese Anime/Manga style cartoons & animation. Each student will complete finished pages of cartoon artwork. For ALL levels of experience.

Spring 2008 Adult Art Workshops
Mixed Media Workshop: This is the workshop to take if you would like to sample many different ways of making art. The session will include information and instruction in the use of various drawing and painting materials and techniques to be used to create an original multi-media artwork.

Students are responsible for their own materials and supplies.

Encaustic Workshop: More Advanced Techniques An in-depth session of encaustic processes including collaging, stenciling and a variety of other uses for/with the wax medium. Basic techniques will be reviewed and several original pieces can be completed in this session.

Saturday, March 29
10:00-2:00 PM

Printmaking 101 Workshop: Making Multiples Learn the basic techniques of monoprinting (painting on mylar or plexiglass), chine colle (pasting rice paper on paper) and collographs (printing from a board made from a collage of cardboard and various textured materials). Produce unique one of a kind prints or limited edition multiple prints.
